Khichdi was launched in 2002, and since then two successful seasons have been aired. In 2005, it made a comeback with a new season Instant Khichdi. The show was the first television show to have a film based on it which performed well at the box office. Khichdi is a Hindi language sitcom produced by UTV Software Communications, which debuted in the early 2000s on STAR Plus and has been on-and-off air since then. Unlike other Hindi sitcoms, which continuously air throughout the year, Khichdi is one of the earliest shows on Indian television to adopt the Western model of appearing in seasons. Khichdi is a Hindi language sitcom produced by UTV Software Communications, which debuted on STAR Plus on 10 September 2002. The series has been rerun on STAR Plus and its sister channels several times.

JD Majethia knew that Prime Minister enjoyed watching his show and years later when the movie was released, he ensured that Narendra Modi watched it. Now that the team has come up with a season two of their show, they decided to reach out to the prime minister again and the cast was quite thrilled to meet him. Revealing about his meeting, JD says, “He asked us, ‘Khichdi kevi paaki che’ (How is the khichdi cooked this time?). And we responded by requesting him to watch a few portions of the show.
