You may also need to tell Outlook where to store incoming mail by changing the folder so identified. I did this today on a Windows 10 system using Outlook 2010 and it didn't work.
The message alluded to that the file could not be accessed. It wasn't possible to change the incoming mail folder at all.
It remained unspecified. I also tried going to Control Panel / Mail to change the DataFile location. Same problem.
Is there a tried and true procedure for moving a.pst file in Windows 10 (or is there some other related context that I should be asking about?). First make sure you have a backup of your PST file. Second remember Outlook 2010 and newer creates a new PST file for each account. Third: If you able to, delete your Outlook Profile and account.
I assume it is not yet working but if you have another PST file with mail in, move it out of Outlook's way. Make a NEW Account in Outlook. I suggest you use the Manual Setup and NOT the Wizard. Set up the Account and make sure it sends and receives.
Now rename your big PST file backup.PST and COPY into Documents where the Outlook files are. Open Outlook and click on Open Import. Follow the prompts and import your email. All should be well and working.
